Museum Map

Problem

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the Nelson-Atkins chose to stop providing printed maps to visitors. At this time visitors are asked to view a digital version of the previously printed map on their phones to navigate the museum. This map is not updated to reflect current exhibits, and is difficult to view on a mobile device as it was not designed to be viewed at such a small size.

Other museums, such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., solved this issue by creating a museum application that guides visitors through the museum.

Opportunity

An interactive museum map will allow visitors to not only more easily tour the museum, but will also give the museum the opportunity to advertise upcoming tours, visiting exhibits, and encourage donations.

The proposed application includes the ability to:

  • View artwork and gallery details

  • Receive turn by turn directions between areas of the museum

  • Use AI camera technology to help visitors find their location within the museum

  • Share upcoming free and paid tours
