Hilliard Lighting, originally Hilliard Services, is an electrical company that specializes in supplying lighting fixtures to commercial buildings. They chose this name recently, but are currently debating changing the name and are not using the logo at this time.
The logo design is based on the sign that the company owner’s family once displayed on their grocery store. The sign displayed a curved “Hilliard” in block fonts. I took this idea and expanded on it, allowing for more text to be added to further specify what the company does. The image below is from my first sketches of the logo design, with the starred sketch being the version we chose to develop further.
This sketch was chosen from four options, all of which involved curved text in some form with the addition of various icons and the word “services” which was later changed to Lighting.
This drawing was then further refined. After refinement of the custom lettering portion of the logo I took the design into Illustrator, where I created a digital version of the image and further refined the custom lettering. the word “Lighting” was added in a traditional font as hand lettering for this item wasn’t deemed necessary.
